ACADEMIC INFORMATION


      COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

      Continuing Education:

        Northwest Aviation College offers a variety of courses for individuals whose sole objective is to obtain a specific pilot certificate or rating (e.g. private pilot certificate or instrument airplane rating, etc...). These students may be taking continuation training for a variety of reasons, (e.g. hobby, recreation, general knowledge , etc...). These students are considered to be avocational and are not enrolled in vocational or degree programs.

      Vocational Professional Pilot Programs:

        The vocational professional pilot programs are designed to give students certain skills and proficiencies necessary to obtain employment in the aviation industry. The specific program requirements and employment opportunities available to graduates of each of these programs are listed as follows:

      Professional Pilot I Program

        This program will give students the skills and certification level of "Certified Flight Instructor." This certification will meet the hiring requirements for most part 61 flight schools.

        This certificate requires a minimum of 45 credits. 20 credits may be earned at other approved schools, however 25 credits must be earned in residence at Northwest Aviation College. In addition, a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale must be maintained.

      Program Requirements:

        AVN 110 Private Pilot Ground School, 5 credits
        AVN 120 Commercial Pilot Ground School, 5 credits
        AVN 130 Instrument Pilot Ground School, 5 credits
        AVN 140 Flight Instructor Ground School, 5 credits
        AVN 250 Multiengine Rating, 5 credits (or Any aviation elective course)
        AVN 221 Private Pilot Flight, 5 credits
        AVN 222 Commercial Pilot Flight, 5 credits
        AVN 223 Instrument Pilot Flight, 5 credits
        AVN 224 Flight Instructor, Flight, 5 credits

        45 Credits

        Completion time: 12 Months for full time status students; 18 months 3/4 time status; 36 months less than 1/2 time status or 70 quarter credit hours attmepted.

      Professional Pilot II Program

        This program is designed to allow students to gain the skills, knowledge, and certification of "Certified Flight Instructor, Instrument". This is determined to be the level at which students must reach to gain initial employment with FAA approved part 141 flight schools.

        This certificate requires a minimum of 50 credits. 25 credits may be earned at other approved schools, however 25 credits must be earned in residence at Northwest Aviation College. In addition, a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale must be maintained.

        Completion Time: 18 Months for full time status students; 20 months 3/4 time status; 40 months less than 1/2 time status or 70 quarter credit hours attmepted.

      Professional Pilot III Program

        The Professional Pilot III program is unique in that it combines the skills and knowledge from academics and flight training with an internship at Northwest Aviation College. Upon completion of this program the student will have gained the certification level of "Airline Transport Pilot". This will allow students to gain employment with either a commuter or cargo air carriers.

        This course requires a minimum of 100 credits. 50 credits must be earned in residency at Northwest Aviation College. In addition, a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale must be maintained.

        Completion time: 36 Months for full time status students; 40 months 3/4 time status; 80 months less than 1/2 time status or 150 quarter credit hours attmepted.

      Degree Programs:

        Northwest Aviation College has developed an aviation degree program that will allow the student to obtain skills and knowledge necessary to obtain employment in the aviation industry.

Associate in Applied Science in Aviation Flight Technology

        The Aviation Flight Technology curriculum is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in aviation, whether it be as a Professional Pilot, Airport Manager, Aviation Safety Professional, or other aviation related fields. Successful completion of this curriculum will result in an Associate Degree in Aviation Flight Technology.
