How
long will it take?
We have certified
pilots in as few as fourteen days, but this usually proves to be a bit
exhaustive for most people. Completion times will vary depending on
each student's level of commitment, study habits, flight frequency,
and weather conditions. On average, a student should expect to obtain
his or her Private Pilot certificate in four to six months. Our facility
is open seven days a week to accommodate everyone.
How
much will it cost?
A typical student
should expect to spend between five and seven thousand dollars to obtain
a Private Pilot certificate. The cost of training varies from school
to school nationwide. This is because fuel, maintenance, and airport
expenses are factored into airplane rental rates, and vary greatly.
Additional factors that affect rental rates are based on the type of
training offered. For example, schools utilizing Part 141 curriculum
will have greater expenses than those utilizing a Part 61 curriculum
due to the higher standards required of schools offering Part 141 training
by the FAA. Furthermore since a pilot license is issued on the basis
of demonstrated proficiency rather than on hours (above the minimum)
accrued in an aircraft, cost for flight training will vary among individuals.
Of course, there are additional expenses for pilot supplies and equipment
that also need to be considered as part of a total cost estimate.
Do I have to pay for it all at once?
Many schools
do require students to pay for their training in advance. However, at
Auburn Flight Service and Northwest Aviation College, you can pay as you
go.
What
kind of airplane will I fly?
You can learn to
fly in any airplane you want. Most students however are price conscious,
we usually suggest an economical trainer like a Piper Warrior for basic
flight instruction. Students will often transition into faster, more
complex aircraft after they have obtained their Private Pilot certificate.
